Tom Riddles' diary is a journal containing the memories of the sixteen-years-old Tom Orvoloson Riddle, the future Lord Voldemort, preserved by Lucius Malfoy for many years until the meeting with Harry Potter and the Weasleys family in the " The Flourish and Blotts" library. Lucius places this diary in Ginny Weasley's bag; she begins to read it and becomes possessed by the Dark Lord, who uses her for getting open the Chamber of Secrets, release his basilisk, and write the messages in blood on the walls. Finally, Voldemort wants to use the girl's vital energy in order to come back to life himself. The diary was destroyed with a basilisk's fang by Harry and( by now nothing more than an heirloom) returned to Lucius Malfoy.
In the sixth book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, it turns out that the diary was a Horcrux.
