Alastor Moody is an ex-Auror.
During his long and glorious career, which made him one of the best ever in his role, he captured numerous dark wizards and Death Eaters, always trying to deliver them to justice alive; the many enemies he has made because of his work have led him to develop an extremely paranoid and wary character.
The many battles he faced have caused him scars and disabilities: he lost part of his nose, a leg, replaced by a prosthesis, and an eye, in whose place he wears a magic eye that is perpetually alert and able to see through the substance that earned him the nickname of "Mad-Eye".
In Goblet of Fire he is called to Hogwarts as a Defense against the Dark Arts Professor but before lessons starts he is captured, imprisoned and impersonated by Barty Crouch Jr. using the Polyjuice Potion for the entire school year; once freed, he rejoins the Order of the Phoenix and takes part in the battle of the Department of Mysteries.
In Deathly Hallows he is put in charge of the expedition that deals with taking Harry from the Dursley house, but during the operation he is abandoned by his partner Mundungus Fletcher and killed by Voldemort.
Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody is a charakter in the "Harry Potter" book series, written by J.K. Rowling. Moody is known to be one of the most famous Aurors, wizards and witches who fight against the Dark Arts, having captured many Death Eaters during the two Wizarding Wars. His reputation as an unwavering defender of good against evil makes him a respected and feared figure.
One of Moody's defining characteristics is his magical eye, which allows him to see through anything, including walls, invisibility cloak and even within him, hence the nickname "Eye-the Eye". This magical eye compensates for the loss of his original eye, presumably during one of his many clashes with Voldemort's fellows.
Moody first appears in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", where he is introduces as the new Defence against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts. However, it's later revealed that the man everyone believes to be Moody for much of the book is actually Barty Crouch Jr., a Death Eater who used the Polyjuice Potion to take on Moody's appearance in a complex plan to bring back Lord Voldemort in power. The real Alastor Moody is held captive for most of the year in a magical trunk.
Neverthless this bad start, Moody becomes an important member of the Order of the Phoenix, the secret organization founded by Albus Dumbledore to fight Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Moody is described as an intimidating-looking man, with a face scarred from his numerous battles he fought, who walks limping due to a magical wooden leg and who often has a paranoid expression, the result of years spent fighting the Dark Arts.
His attitude of prudence and security, often bordering on a paranoia, and his skill in combat make him a valuable ally for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in their battles against the Dark forces. The Moody's figure represents a symbol of sacrifice and of the fight against evil, remembering characters and readers of the importance of supervision and courage in the face of danger.
