The Marauder's Map was a magical document that revealed all of Hogwarts School of Magic and Witchcraft. Not only did it show every classroom, hallway and area of the castle but also every inch of the ground, as well as all the hidden secret passages within its walls and the location of every person in the park, represented by a dot. It was also able to precisely identify each person and wasn't fooled by Animagi, Polyjuice Potions or invisibility cloaks; even the Hogwarts ghosts or Peevesnon weren't exempt.

One possible map flaw was that it didn't distinguish the person who had matching names ( shared names weren't assigned a Junior or Senior at the end). Moreover, it didn't seem to show untraceable rooms, as it was Dobby and not the map revealing the existence and the location of the Room of Requirement.

The Secrets Chamber never appeared on the maps either because the creators never knew about it or because it was neither traceable since when Ron and Hermione were there collecting Basilisk fangs they didn't appear on the map similarly to the Room of Requirement.
